Jawan commits suicide

JAMMU, Nov 22: An army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his INSAS rifle in an army camp at Nowshera area in Rajouri district. Identified as Sepoy Nakul Kumar, 23, son of Brahma Singh, resident of village Mikhyali, tehsil Muzaffarnagar, New Mandi Uttar Pradesh, who was posted with 162 Field Regiment in Nowshera Sector last night allegedly shot himself and ended his life, police said, adding that he pumped two bullets in his chest, close to the heart, from his service rifle .

After hearing gunshots, his colleagues rushed to the spot and took him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said.

After conducting post mortem the body has been sent to his native place Muzaffarnagar in UP for last rites, they said, adding that inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC has been initiated in this connection. They said no suicide was recovered from the deceased. Army has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.
