Why Kashmir Burns

@HKAdmin : 11-Aug-2010, 11:26 AM

‘Hizbul Mujahidin Zindabad’, some incomprehensible scrawls in Urdu following us until we entered the cantonment. Bunglows and beautiful lawns, tree lined pavements and the olive green of the uniforms- comforting, familiar and welcome. The images of the ghost town receded, but not for long.

It was the year of Kanun Poshpura rapes. Kashmir was ablaze with anger at the alleged mass rape more...

@HKAdmin : 11-Aug-2010, 07:46 PM

My mission in life is to promote peace and inter-religious understanding and to struggle against religious fanaticism and extremism. As I have deep conviction about teachings of Islam, I am also great admirer of Gandhiji and his philosophy of non-violence. (A.E.)

Gandhiji: I have drawn inspiration from Islam as much as from Christianity. Islam’s emphasis on justice, equal more...

@HKAdmin : 13-Aug-2010, 06:18 AM

The lack of such ambulances in the Valley is proving to be costly in terms of the number of lives lost during the past two months. Experts say that if immediate first aid and emergency treatment to the trauma patients would have been available in ambulances, many lives could have been saved.

“In fact we don’t have ambulances here, these are just carriers,” remarked a doctor.

U.S. Leading The Terror In Afghanistan

@HKAdmin : 13-Aug-2010, 06:23 AM

The U.S.-led war on Afghanistan is like the U.S.-led war on Iraq; to destroy the country and to indiscriminately kill large numbers of Afghan civilians. The aim is to terrorise the civilian population into submission using the so-called “War on Terrorism” as a cover-up for a U.S.-led war of terror.

According to media reports, the number of Afghan civilians killed by U.S.-NATO troo more...

India Faces Intifada-Like Revolt in Kashmir

@HKAdmin : 13-Aug-2010, 06:54 AM

For decades, India maintained hundreds of thousands of security forces in Kashmir to fight an insurgency sponsored by Pakistan, which claims this border region, too. The insurgency has been largely vanquished. But those Indian forces are still here, and today they face a threat potentially more dangerous to the world’s largest democracy — an intifada-like popular revolt against Indian rul more...

The Hurriyat has been issuing a protest calendar every Saturday for the past two months.

Kashmir Now Or Never By Badri Raina

@HKAdmin : 13-Aug-2010, 01:20 PM

If the prospect, that is, of the secession of the valley—since other parts of the state of Jammu & Kashmir desire, contrarily, not secession but more complete integration with the Union of India-- were not fraught with  incalculable negative consequences not just for India and Pakistan, but for the inhabitants of the valley itself.

To that I shall return.

Kashmir: Why The Anger? By Anuradha Bhasin

@HKAdmin : 13-Aug-2010, 02:40 PM

There has been not even a minute step to address alienation of the people. Kashmiris reposed their faith in the peace process and hoped for being included with a dialogue and internal confidence building measures aimed to minimize human rights abuse. But nothing happened, leading to their impatience, particularly among the youth – born and brought up in a conflict, having been witness to rigor more...

Paying Back To The Madrasah

@HKAdmin : 13-Aug-2010, 10:41 PM

How can we exclude one of the ‘two eyes of the bride’? What will happen to our integration in the larger society? If there is a threat of the Muslims losing their identity why do we allow that in the cases of a huge majority? Why do we have two standards in dealing with Muslim kids? Why do we expect one thing from some of them and another from the rest of them? Why not what is good for one i more...

Why silence over Kashmir speaks volumes

@HKAdmin : 14-Aug-2010, 08:36 AM

Why then does the immense human suffering of Kashmir occupy such an imperceptible place in our moral imagination? India has contained the insurgency provoked in 1989 by its rigged elections and massacres of protestors. The hundreds of thousands of demonstrators that fill the more...
