There are reports of widespread protests across the Valley. At the time of filing of this report sounds of gunshots fired by security forces at demonstrators were reverberating in Srinagar.
According to reports, two youth were killed and six persons received bullet injuries when paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Railway Protection Force Personnel (RPF) opened fire on a group of demonstrators at Amargarh in Sopore after Friday prayers.
As the security personnel stopped the demonstrators from marching ahead, the latter hurled stones, which the security personnel retatiated by opening fire. Those killed have been identified as Muhammad Ahsan Ganai and Showkat Ahmed Wagay.
In another incident in the same district, five people were injured when police and paramilitary troopers opened fire on people holding demonstrations at Kreeri near Pattan today. The identity of those injured is being ascertained. Further details are awaited.
