Latest News Updates, Current Situation in Kashmir
Back from Kashmir, Farooq meets Sonia
Abdullah arrived here from Srinagar this evening after attending yesterday’s All Party Meet (APM) and holding discussion with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and party functionaries on the prevailing situation in the State.
The NC president is understood to have apprised Sonia about the current situation in the State especially in Valley. The functioning of the coalition government as well as law and order situation came up for detailed discussion.
Congress has extended its full support to Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the chief minister has been advised to reach out to the people in the Valley and address their problems.
Abdullah returned last week from foreign trip and met Home Minister P Chidambarm and Defence Minister A K Antony before flying to Srinagar for making spot study of the situation. His absence had been felt by the party functionaries in the Valley. He was recently asked by the party leaders to continue as president of the party but give more time to party affairs.
Agencies add that NC president called on Home minister P Chidamabaram.
“There is no threat to the Jammu and Kashmir government headed by Omar Abdullah. The coalition partners (NC and Congress) are strong. There is no question of toppling the government,” Abdullah told reporters after a meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram.
Abdullah is understood to have discussed with Chidambaram the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the steps being taken by the state government to bring back normalcy.
He said that an all-party delegation of the state would soon meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
