Four youth shot in Srinagar protest

According to reports, a large number of people took to streets in Chanapora and Natipora areas on Friday heeding the Hurriyat call to march towards Maisuma. They were also protesting against the alleged atrocities committed by security forces there on Thursday during a demonstration. The protesters were engaged by paramilitary troopers and a clash ensued. As the protesters grew in number and began to march towards the Airport Road, paramilitary troopers opened fire, injuring four youth. While all the injured were shifted to the hospital, according to unconfirmed reports one of them has succumbed to his injuries.

As the news of the youth's death spread in the city, hundreds of people have taken to the streets raising anti-government and pro-freedom slogans.

Paramilitary and police forces have again opened fire at protesters at Rambagh on the Airport Road. Details about the incident are awaited.

Elsewhere in Srinagar and the rest of the Valley life continues to remain on a standstill as authorities have imposed undeclared curfew in several areas of Srinagar to quell the planned protests today.
