Two die after landslides, shooting stones hit Kashmir highway in Ramban

The duo were travelling on foot when the landslides triggered by incessant rains and snowfall hit the road.

Two persons died after landslides and shooting stones hit Srinagar-Jammu highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said today.

Sanjit Lakara of Alipur West Bengal and Pramod Mankotia of Himachal Pradesh died after shooting stones and landslides struck the highway between Battery Cheshma and Maroog areas.

The duo were travelling on foot when the landslides triggered by incessant rains and snowfall hit the road.

Their bodies were shifted to District Hospital Ramban by the police and QRT volunteers.

Three bodies were recovered on Friday while three policemen were rescued alive from the debris of a snow avalanche that buried a police post near Jawahar Tunnel in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district last evening, reports said.
